IOP Golf Cart Etiquette
Your Guide to Navigating Isle of Palms Roads Safel
At IOP Golf Cart Rentals, safety is our top priority - and that means not only having a blast but also cruising around the island responsibly. Before you hit the road in one of our trusty golf carts, it's essential to familiarize yourself with local laws and regulations to ensure a smooth ride for everyone.
How to Stay Street-Smart on IOP:
*Only LSVs (Low-Speed Vehicle) that are equipped with an odometer and speedometer are street legal on roads with a posted limit of up to 35 mph, and must have working headlights and taillights to be operated 24 hours a day.
How to Stay Street-Smart on IOP:
- No Joyriding on Palm Blvd. Sorry thrill-seekers, but golf carts* aren't allowed on Palm Blvd., highways, or any roads with speed limits exceeding 35 mph. Stick to designated golf cart paths and slower side streets that are approved for golf cart use. Look out for signage indicating where carts are permitted.
- Obey the Law. Keep it steady! Sure, our standard golf carts can't go over 20 mph, but you should still be mindful to adhere to posted speed limits and drive at a safe, reasonable speed. No one under the age of 21 is allowed to operate our golf carts without a parent or guardian.
- Mind the Sundown Cart Curfew. Golf carts cannot be legally operated on Isle of Palms after dusk. Do not risk it. You will get caught and your vacation will be ruined. Not worth it.
- Respect the IOP Vibe. Keep the tunes down and be mindful of noise levels. Respect local noise ordinances, especially during quiet hours. Also, do not drive your cart on the beach. Sure, it sounds fun, but motorized vehicles are not allowed on the beach. If you try it, you will regret it.
- Park with Care. When parking your golf cart, ensure it's in designated parking areas or spaces. Avoid blocking driveways, sidewalks, or emergency access points.
- Be Smart. Golf carts are NOT an alternative to drinking and driving. You will still get a DUI in a golf cart. It's illegal to operate a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The same laws that apply when you drive your car, apply to a golf cart. It's probably a good time to remind you that alcoholic beverages and smoking (including vaping) are prohibited on the beach and beach access paths, according to City of Isle of Palms ordinances.
- Enjoy Effortless Cruising. Say goodbye to range anxiety! Our golf carts boast ample battery life, ensuring you can explore all day long without worrying about running out of juice. But if something does go awry, our local team can get you back on the road quickly without having to send the cart off the island for parts or service.
- Be a Good Neighbor. Remember, as an IOP Golf Cart Rentals driver, you're representing not only us, but also the laid-back spirit of Isle of Palms. P.S., the locals all know each other and will report back with any shenanigans they witness our carts being involved in. So, keep it cool, stay safe, and enjoy your IOP adventure!
